Kanematsu Corporation (below, “Kanematsu”) is pleased to announce that on February 1, 2021, it acquired 90% of shares in Datatec Co., Ltd. (below, “Datatec”) with a view to expanding its next- generation mobility business. By providing products and services such as digital tachographs for commercial vehicles and in-vehicle devices that aid safe driving, Datatec aims to bring about a society without traffic accidents. It possesses particular expertise in vehicle behavior analysis technology. Furthermore, in an effort to build a society that protects the global environment, it provides products and services that improve fuel efficiency, thereby contributing to reductions in CO2 emissions. It is currently conducting field tests in Indonesia as part of the Ministry of the Environment’s “Financing Program to Demonstrate Decarbonization Technology for Realizing Co-Innovation” developing technologies aimed at facilitating a shift to low-carbon worldwide.
Through this share acquisition, Kanematsu intends to further expand sales of Datatec’s flagship product, the digital tachograph, in Japan and overseas, particularly Southeast Asia, India and North America. Meanwhile, the vehicle behavior analysis technology that Datatec specializes in will be put to work in developing new business in the in-vehicle telematics market. Additionally, we will pursue new data business by harnessing AI and the vast amounts of vehicle operation data obtained from Datatec’s in-vehicle units.
